Family photos in Captiva are a forever gift. Firstly, as a family photographer, I believe this statement with all of my heart. Not only is Captiva peaceful and beautiful, it’s also the ideal spot for a family vacation. If you are a “northerner” or a ” midwesterner” struggling with the cold and snow, or a native Floridian just looking for an escape, consider Captiva — it’s the best!

Captiva Lodging – You Have Options

If you are pondering a mid-winter vacation, Captiva is calling your name. One of the things I like most about the island is that it really feels like an escape; more than many other spots in the US. It’s truly is a vacationers paradise.

That said, when planning a trip the first course of action is to book your lodging. In the Captiva area, you have so many choices. Consider some of my favorites:

Jensens on the Gulf: This small boutique hotel is incredibly romantic and located right on the beach in Captiva.

Sea Oats Luxury Estate: If you are traveling with a group and want spectacular accommodations, this is your place. With 11 rooms and spectacular amenities – this is the perfect spot for a large family reunion, or a surprise engagement get-away. This property is perfect for a multi-generation vacation!

South Seas Island Resort: Perhaps the most well-known resort in the area, South Seas is simply spectacular. You can choose a suite, villa, or home – making it ideal for families of all sizes. And the activities are abundant and amazing. Not only that, there are countless awesome spots for family pictures.

If you prefer a private rental in the area, consider this newly renovated villa. Perfect for a romantic getaway, the property boasts an open floor plan, beautiful decor, and a washer/dryer in the unit (perfect after spending the day at the beach). It’s bright and airy and offers all the conveniences of home – without the responsibilities.

Of course, there are even more places to stay. As a Captiva family photographer, I’d be happy to suggest some to you!

Dining Out in Captiva

If there is one thing I love almost as much as taking family photos its enjoying a relaxing meal out. Luckily, Captiva has a host of options, everything from casual breakfast and lunch spots to fine dining. Want some suggestions? Fine, twist my arm (I love sharing my favorites). Of course there are way to many to list them all, so I’ve included just a few below.

Cantina Captiva is a go-to for great Mexican food. And who doesn’t want to enjoy a refreshing margarita in the Florida sun. Make it a point to stop by here for relaxing casual dining!

The Green Flash is a must visit. If you haven’t dined on the waterfront, have you even been on vacation? I certainly don’t think so. Serving lunch and dinner, this restaurant offers some of the most delicious seafood in the world! And, you can visit by boat or by car!

RC Otters serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to visitors on Captiva. Additionally, they are family friendly with a kids menu for their younger guests. The restaurant also features live music and offers take out – clearly something for everyone!

Without a doubt there are a lot of places for great food if you are visiting Captiva. Take my advice and try as many as possible – after all, you ARE on vacation!

Making Your Memories Tangible

There is nothing more valuable then spending time with your family. Trust me, as your kids get older the opportunities to vacation together tend to dwindle – schedules are hard to coordinate. So, take advantage when your kids are young, or- if they are older – any chance you get. The memories you make are priceless.

As a Captiva Island family photographer, one of the most rewarding things I get to do is to help preserve the memories through family photos shoots. I love the opportunity to meet new people and taking pictures of them while relaxed and enjoying my favorite place in the world is simply ideal. I have the very best job!
