Mental health is just as serious as our physical health, but does not always gets the awareness it deserves. Many people around the world live with mental illnesses, yet are afraid to reach out for help. This week, Kate Spade’s, an iconic fashion designer and business woman, death shocked the world. There are still a lot of rumors going around regarding the cause of her suicide. But many people believe she suffered from depression and anxiety. Kate Spade’s death speaks to how anybody can suffer from mental illnesses.
People from higher economic backgrounds are just as sensitive to mental illnesses as the rest of the population. The richest person in the world can still suffer from these illnesses. Kate Spade’s death emphasizes, like many other celebrities’ struggling with mental illness, that money does not always necessarily lead to a happy life.
In past years, it used to seem as if our mental well-being was only considered important until a celebrity committed suicide. But now, the window for talking about these struggles has opened up so much. There are several mediums for treating one’s mental wellness. People suffering from mental illnesses can attend therapy, get prescription medication, go to support groups, and much more to treat their conditions. Specifically in Monmouth County, resources such as High Focus Centers, New Hope Integrated Behavioral Health Care, hotlines, and school counselors are available to help those in our community.
Call 1-800-273-TALK or text 74174 if you are in danger or immediate crisis. You may FEEL alone, but you aren’t just your feelings. You may think you’re alone but you aren’t your thoughts. Talking to someone may help and that is always a shot worth taking.
In life, we all want to live a balanced emotional and physical status, however, it is easier to say than to do. So if you or someone you know is struggling with a mental illness, reach out for help. Do not be afraid to ask for what you need! We all deserve to live a happy life.
